The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, showcasing significant progress. NECO’s Registrar, Professor Dantana Wushishi, announced that 60.55% of candidates achieved five credits, including Mathematics and English Language.
To begin with, a total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,367,736 actually took part. Furthermore, the gender breakdown comprised 702,112 male and 665,624 female candidates. Notably, 2,267 special needs candidates participated in the exams.
Meanwhile, NECO has made significant strides in reducing malpractice. This year’s results saw a 30.1% decrease in malpractice cases, with 8,437 candidates involved. Consequently, this decline underscores NECO’s efforts to maintain examination integrity.
In terms of state performance, Abia State excelled, with 83.40% of its candidates securing five credits and above, including Mathematics and English. Conversely, Katsina State ranked lowest, with 42.00% achieving this benchmark. Similarly, other states demonstrated varying levels of performance.
However, NECO took a firm stance against malpractice, penalizing 40 schools across 17 states for mass cheating. Additionally, 21 supervisors from 12 states were recommended for blacklisting.
In conclusion, Professor Wushishi reaffirmed NECO’s dedication to upholding examination integrity, emphasizing stringent measures to ensure fairness and transparency. Ultimately, the 2024 SSCE results demonstrate NECO’s progress in promoting academic excellence and integrity in Nigeria’s education system.
