The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the highly contested Edo State governorship election.
In the election held on Saturday across all local governments in Edo State, Senator Okpebholo polled a total of 291,667 votes, securing a significant lead over his closest rivals.The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, came second with 247,274 votes, while Olumide Akapata of the Labour Party garnered 22,763 votes to finish third.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Professor. Faruk Adamu Kuta, declared Senator Okpebholo the winner after meeting the requirements of the law, having scored the majority of votes cast.The total number of valid votes cast is 561,704, the Returning Officer announced. Senator Monday Okpebholo, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Senator Okpebholo and the APC in Edo State, and it is expected to shape the state’s political landscape in the coming years.
