In a disturbing trend, Nigeria’s national power grid has collapsed for the third time in just one week, leaving Nigerians without electricity.
The latest incident occurred during the early hours of the 19th of October according to reports from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The collapse resulted in a nationwide blackout, affecting major cities including Lagos, Abuja, and Kano.
This is the third grid collapse in seven days. The repeated grid collapses have:
- Disrupted economic activities
- Caused inconvenience to households and businesses
- Increased reliance on expensive alternative power sources (generators)
- Heightened concerns over national security and stability
Citizens took to social media to express frustration and Nigerians demand:
- Immediate action to address infrastructure deficiencies
- Increased transparency in the power sector
- Long-term solutions to ensure stable electricity supply
As the nation struggles to recover from these repeated disruptions, the government must prioritize the revitalization of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
