Abia State University, Uturu, has swiftly suspended Dr. Udochukwu Ndukwe, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, for three months due to allegations of sexual harassment against a female student. The registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, actively initiated an investigation into the matter by announcing the suspension in a letter dated July 30, 2024.
Consequently, The university will deduct half of Dr. Ndukwe’s salary during the investigation period, as per university policies. Moreover, a group of individuals who supported the female student in exposing the incident confronted Dr. Ndukwe, and a viral social media post showed him kneeling and begging for forgiveness.
Notably, The female student, in her final year, accused Dr. Ndukwe of harassing her for two years. Moreover, a video captured Dr. Ndukwe attempting to sexually harass the student in a room, before a group of individuals intervened and beat him.
Meanwhile, the university has established an investigation panel to look into the matter, following the circulation of an online video involving Dr. Ndukwe. Accordingly, he has been ordered to return all university properties to the head of the Mass Communication department.
In conclusion, Abia State University management has issued a call to action, urging all authorities and members of the university to take note and respond appropriately. Despite attempts to contact the university management for further comment, the registrar’s office has not made itself available. However, by suspending Dr. Ndukwe, the university has taken a crucial step towards tackling sexual harassment and creating a safe learning environment for students.
