Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, pays a heartfelt tribute to his late wife and First Lady, Patience, during her funeral service on Friday held in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit-Ubium Local Government Area of the state. Consequently, the governor’s emotional eulogy celebrates the life of his beloved wife, describing her as his anchor and vowing to keep her memory alive in his heart.
Background of the late Patience Umo Eno
The late Patience Umo Eno was affectionately referred to as Eka Iberedem Akwa Ibom. This title means “Mother and Strong Pillar of Akwa Ibom.” Moreover, She founded the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), a nonprofit organization. GIFA focuses on providing essential services like shelter, food, and education. These services target the poor and vulnerable in Akwa Ibom.
Notably, she launched a feeding initiative, expanding it to feed hundreds of children daily. She ensured no child in her care goes to bed hungry, providing them with daily meals. Moreover, Pastor Patience dedicated herself to the educational advancement of underprivileged children. She sponsored their tuition fees, school supplies, and ensured they succeed academically.
She initiated vocational and financial empowerment programmes for women in her community. These programmes actively equip women with skills and financial independence, improving their livelihoods. Additionally, Pastor Patience organized medical outreach programmes, providing free check-ups and vaccinations. She also offered health education to underserved communities, focusing on children and the elderly.
Governor Umo Eno’s Tribute
Meanwhile, Governor Eno reflected on their 40-year journey together, expressing gratitude for the blessings they enjoyed as a couple and finding solace in their children and grandchildren. “Today, as we bid you farewell, the whole world is here, celebrating your memory. As I look at our children and grandchildren, I take consolation in the fact that the journey that began 40 years ago has been one of growth and immeasurable blessings. We will be fine,” he said.
Furthermore, Governor Eno vowed to keep his wife’s memory alive, saying, “I will never describe you in past tense. You will always be my ‘Oluwakemi,’ alive in my mind, fresh in my thoughts, and warm in my heart.”
The funeral service was attended by a host of dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Others in attendance included Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, and former Akwa Ibom Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel.
