Michael Chidozie, a 26- year- old body builder was tragically cut short when he was shot four times by his 28-year-old wife, Keaïrra Shavoiyae Chidozie, at 2634 Yorktown Street, Houston, Texas, USA, on the evening of March 21, 2024. Following the shooting, Michael was rushed to the hospital, where he bravely fought for his life on life support until he passed away in the early hours of April 8, 2024.
Keaïrra Shavoiyae Chidozie was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon in the 263rd State District Court.
Police detained the wife and charged her for the shooting while the children were taken into care by a family member. While Chidozie lingered on life support but suffered a devastating spinal injury and died of complications 18 days later.
She claimed to have shot Chidozie in self-defence as she feared for her life during the argument when he followed her into their bedroom.
Despite being released before Michael’s passing, the family is seeking justice for their beloved brother and friend as the court proceedings are scheduled to begin in May 2024.
In their plea for support, Michael’s family calls on all Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, and anyone who believes in justice to stand with them. They urge the public to join them in seeking justice for Michael and to contribute financially to repatriate his remains to Nigeria for a dignified burial.
Michael Chidozie was not only a young man but also an accomplished athlete, particularly excelling as a bodybuilder and garnering several prestigious awards throughout his career.
