As Nigeria continues its quest to break new ground and set records in various fields, one individual is poised to make an artistic splash on the global stage.
Meet Chika Godwin, a graduate of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike (AE-FUNAI), who is gearing up to embark on an epic journey to smash the Guinness World Record for the longest painting marathon.
In an exclusive chat , the 27-year-old Fine and Applied Arts alum revealed his burning passion: “to weave tales through vibrant brushstrokes and proudly showcase Africa’s rich heritage to the world.”
Hailing from the vibrant state of Anambra, Godwin kicked off his awe-inspiring 192-hour paint-a-thon on March 27, 2024, with his eyes set on the finish line by April 3.
With a copy of his acceptance letter, adorned with the coveted reference number 24010409, in hand, Godwin’s dream is on the cusp of becoming a reality. The letter reads, “We are delighted to inform you that your application has been approved under the prestigious title: Longest Painting Marathon.”
Since tossing his graduation cap in 2019, Godwin has been steadfast in his belief that art is more than just colors on a canvas—it’s a powerful vessel for storytelling and self-expression.
The stage for this epic showdown? None other than the lively Ocean 21 Lounge, nestled in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos.
And let’s not forget about Chancellor Ahaghotu, the art dynamo from Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, who shattered records earlier this year, leaving the art world in awe with his marathon painting session that surpassed a decade-old benchmark set by Roland Palmaerts (Belgium/Canada) back in 2013.
Get ready to witness history in the making as Chika Godwin paints his way into the annals of artistic greatness!
