The Katsina State Government has strengthened its security apparatus by recruiting an additional 550 youths into its security outfit, the “Community Watch Corps.” This move underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to combating insecurity.
Governor Dikko Radda emphasized the significance of this initiative at the graduation ceremony of the second batch of the corps. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to every one of you graduating today,” he said. “Your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to serve our communities are truly commendable.”
Notably, the past year has witnessed a marked decline in crime rates, with numerous successes recorded in neutralizing bandits. Moreover, the effective collaboration between the Community Watch Corps and conventional security forces has significantly driven down crime rates.
The governor highlighted the corps’ crucial role in maintaining law and order. “Your roles are courageous and essential to the safety and well-being of Katsina’s communities,” he stated.
Consequently, the community-driven approach has earned widespread recognition as a benchmark for other states to follow. With continued investment in logistics and equipment, the Katsina State Government effectively equips the Community Watch Corps to tackle emerging security challenges.
Furthermore, the programme’s primary objective is to empower citizens to take ownership of their safety and well-being. By transitioning from purely military tactics to community-centered methods, Katsina State is pioneering a novel approach to combating insecurity.
