Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, commonly referred to as the national grid, collapsed again on Monday evening, throwing many states into darkness. Occurring at approximately 6:48 pm, this incident marks the latest in a series of grid failures.
Meanwhile, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) promptly confirmed the grid collapse in a statement. Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications, attributed the outage to a “general system collapse” at 6:48 pm. Consequently, the EEDC network lost power supply, affecting Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.
Furthermore, data reveals a significant drop in power generation. At 5 pm, generation stood at 3.87 gigawatts, but by 7 pm and 8 pm, it had plummeted to 0.00 gigawatts.
In response to the outage, the EEDC and Abuja Disco assured customers that efforts are underway to restore power. The EEDC stated it is awaiting detailed information from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo. Similarly, Abuja Disco attributed the power outage to a system failure from the national grid.
Notably, Abuja Disco reassured customers that it is working closely with stakeholders to restore power once the grid is stabilized. However, the recurring national grid collapses highlight Nigeria’s ongoing electricity supply challenges.
In conclusion, the latest grid collapse underscores the need for urgent solutions to Nigeria’s power generation and distribution woes. As the country struggles to meet its electricity demands, one thing is clear: reliable power supply remains a pressing concern.
