As the days passed, the pressure mounted on security forces to act. Families of the kidnapped students anxiously awaited news. On August 23, 2024, the police announced that they had located the students in Ntunkon forest, Benue State.
The rescue operation commenced early on August 24, 2024. Tactical teams, equipped with helicopters and drones, moved into action. They engaged in a coordinated effort to confront the kidnappers. Security forces executed the rescue operation with precision and rescued all 20 students unharmed.
The police confirmed the successful rescue later that day. They stated that no ransom was paid for the students’ release, contradicting earlier reports.
