Manchester United has officially announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim as its new head coach, effective November 11.
Consequently, Amorim will leave his current role at Lisbon’s Sporting to join United. The 39-year-old Portuguese tactician has inked a contract until June 2027, with an option for an additional year.
Notably, Amorim’s inaugural match at the helm of United will take place on November 24 at Ipswich.
Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to oversee the first team until Amorim’s arrival, following Erik ten Hag’s departure last month.
In a statement released by the club, Manchester United expressed its delight at securing Amorim’s services:
Subject to work visa requirements, Manchester United is thrilled to confirm Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team. He will be joining the club on Monday, November 11, until June 2027, with a club option for an additional year, once his existing obligations have been fulfilled.
Regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting and highly rated young coaches, Amorim boasts an impressive track record. His accolades include two Primeira Liga titles with Sporting CP, the first of which ended the club’s 19-year championship drought.
Furthermore, Amorim has been instrumental in shaping Sporting’s success.
A former midfielder for Benfica and Portugal, Amorim hung up his boots in 2017. Subsequently, he embarked on his managerial journey at Braga.
In March 2020, he took the reins at Sporting, cementing his reputation as a sought-after coach. Under his guidance, the club secured two Primeira Liga titles.
Amorim’s trophy cabinet also features three Taca da Liga titles, with two conquests at Sporting and one at Braga.
